Procedure
The aim of the project was to collect demographic data and healing outcomes of patients with diabetic foot syndrome (DFS) in three interprofessional foot centres in German-speaking Switzerland. The study examined the care of people with DFS at the cantonal hospitals of Lucerne and St. Gallen as well as at Emmental Hospital in Burgdorf during the period 2022 to 2023. The study aimed to generate reliable data on patient characteristics, baseline clinical status and the course of treatment in specialised interprofessional settings.
Results
A specific Secutrail database was established for the retrospective observational study. Demographic, medical history and clinical patient data were anonymously recorded, cleaned and analysed. The study was approved by the Ethics Commissions of North-Western Switzerland, Eastern Switzerland and Berne and was completed in early 2025. Initial findings were presented in April 2025 in an e-poster at the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) Congress in Bangkok. Two scientific publications on the study results are planned for 2026. The findings are an important contribution to the understanding of care structures and treatment outcomes of diabetic foot syndromes in interprofessional footcare centres.
